FFA’s COLT: Chairman and Officer Leadership Training

Hosted by Westlake on July 19, 2016

Westlake was granted the opportunity to host a county wide officer and chairman leadership workshop training. We had the Utah FFA officers– Sakia Brost, Andalyn Hall, Mariah Pace, Mat Gonder, Allesha Arehart, Wayson Foy, and running for National FFA Officer- Sabrina Sage. Also, we had multiple schools from all over the state. We had just over 200 students participating in the workshops that were put on by the state officers.

Utah FFA’s theme this year is Surge. The definition of “surge” is: a sudden powerful forward or upward movement caused by a natural force. In the workshops we worked a lot on being the one to make the initiative and starting to do something, not just waiting for someone to do it for us. For example one of the workshops was talking applying for agricultural scholarships, and what we do in FFA can help us qualify for those scholarships. But we need to be able to have the drive in order to get those things done and sit down and apply for all of the different scholarships.

The Westlake Chapter would like to thank everybody for coming and thank the State FFA Officers, including Sabrina Sage for all coming out and making COLT such a great experience! And thank you for the opportunity for letting us host it, it was an amazing turnout and we hope that it can happen again!
