Getting To Know FCCLA

by Candace Wilson

The FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) leadership club just finished up one of their biggest service projects in Westlake history to help families in our community. They and the student council helped raise over $24,000 for families in our community. The FCCLA members ran the concessions at the Christmas Jars Assembly and raised over $400 with their concession sales. The FCCLA chapter helped organize the well attended “Stuff the Jar Night” indoor Christmas Carnival. They organize the B3 class competition and will help prepare and serve the reward meal. Thanks to all the students that donated or helped in any way!

The FCCLA chapter is over 60 members strong. They have been very involved this school year. They represented well at the club rush days during lunches and sold some yummy treats at the homecoming carnival. Members had a blast at the opening social and ate some yummy Cafe Rio food and participated in the homecoming carnival parade.

Members attended the annual Breadstick Bash and Food Day events. The FCCLA chapter raised over $500 to help fight hunger in our community at the Great American Bake Sale event.

Members this year get a fun birthday letter in snail mail and get recognized in other ways for their participation by being selected as a member of the month.

We are currently preparing for the FCCLA region, state and national competitions. Students compete in events such as Culinary Arts, Chapter Service, Chapter in Review and Nutrition and Wellness to name a few.

This years theme is “It’s going to be Wild in FCCLA”. We have had a wild year and hope to have some more wild fun. It’s never to late to join FCCLA. Talk to a Family and Consumer Science teacher to see how you can get involved, or talk to a chapter officer!
