State competitions don’t come around everyday, so when a team makes it to state the school rallies around them, supporting them the whole way. Westlake’s girls basketball team made it to the final 4 at state. In the first round of the tournament we played Herriman High School. We beat them 50-47. In the quarter finals we played Hillcrest High School, and brought home the win with a score of 54-47. We then played in the semi finals against Freemont High School. Spirits were high as we entered fourth quarter and the game was tight. We had the game all tied up at the end of fourth, putting us into over time. Our girls fought hard and gave it their all. However that was where our journey came to a close as we lost by 4. Freemont moves on to the Championship with a win of 54-50. In the championship game Freemont beat Bingham 61-47.

When Tatum Peterson- Westlake Senior- was asked what her favorite part of playing basketball is she said, “My favorite part of basketball was definitely my teammates, cause no matter what we always had each others backs on and off the court!”

“The hardest thing I think we over came was people’s expectations. No one thought we were going to make it as far as we did, and we were determined to prove them all wrong!” Stated Tatum. Westlake’s Girls Basketball was definitely considered the “underdog,” but the girls proved everyone wrong by bringing the THUNDER!

Tatum told us, “The most rewarding thing was by far all the memories made and laughs had.” She continued, “I love spending time with those awesome girls and coaches, we had a blast no matter where we were or what we were doing, I love them!” We love them too! We are so proud of all the hard work and dedication that they put into their season. We loved cheering them on from the sidelines.

What a great season for THUNDER NATION! We can’t wait to see what they do next year!
