Last week on October 3rd and 4th, Westlake sent two golfers individually to the state championship. State was held at the Talons Cove golf course in Saratoga Springs. Caden Dunn and Tristan Mckinney both qualified by being top 12 statistically in our region. Through region play, Caden was 3rd overall and Tristan was 9th. In the state tournament, Caden shot a 73 (+1) both days to finish 2 over par, placing 6th overall. On the first day, Tristan shot a 76 (+4) and bounced back the second day with a 71 (-1) to finish 3 over par, placing 8th overall. This was Caden’s second consecutive year playing in the state tournament and he said, “State was a good experience. It felt good to improve my placing from sophomore year to this year. My nerves didn’t really get to me this year cause I knew what I was up against. Hopefully next year I can win a state title.” This was Tristan’s first year playing for state and he said, “Just being in the state tournament was a great time, but playing in front of everyone and representing Westlake is about as fun as it gets!” I asked if there were any nerves going into state and he said “On the first tee box there was, but after that no, not really.” Our Golf team has been getting better every year and the future is looking bright for these guys.
